  1. AFRTS no longer broadcasts a regular service direct to listeners on
  2. shortwave.  The programs for the most part go by satellite feed to
  3. local stations and wired networks.  However, AFRTS does use a SSB
  4. shortwave feed fairly regularly  using a low-power transmitter at
  5. Barford  St. John, near Banbury, Oxfordshire, in the U.K.
  6.  
  7. They transmit on only one or two frequencies at a time and the frequen-
  8. cies used depend on propagation conditions.  AFRTS has been noted at one
  9. time or another on the following frequencies:

  11. 5247.3, 5376.8, 7443 (approx), 7571.8, 8975.5, 9242.3, 9334.3, 9929.3,
  12. 10537.8, 12651.3, 13651.3, 16041.2, 16541.4 and 19918.4 kHz.

  16. Listeners in Europe might also try for the AFRTS BCB stations in the
  17. Federal Republic of Germany (actually American Forces Network Europe).
  18. In December 1989 when I was in Bern, Switzerland, I could hear AFNE
  19. stations on 873 kHz (Frankfurt, 150 kW), 1107 kHz (5 transmitters on
  20. this frequency), and 1143 kHz (8 transmitters on this frequency).
